Explanation To The Beautiful And Perfect Names Of Allah
“…in which he succinctly and beautifully explains those Names of Allah that occur in the Qur’an. After each explanation the translator has added some verses of the Qur’an showing the usage of the particular Name in question.”
To reach the highest echelons of understanding, one must recognize the Lord, the Glorious, through His beauty. This profound knowledge is held by the elite of creation, each acknowledging Him through one of His Attributes. However, those possessing the most comprehensive understanding are those who perceive Him through His perfection, magnificence, and beauty. His Attributes are incomparable; envisioning the entire creation in its utmost splendor and attempting to compare their collective beauty to the Lord's beauty would be more feeble than a faint torch against the blazing disk of the sun. This discourse is drawn from the introductory words of Shaykh Nasir as-Sa`di, may Allah have mercy upon him, in his tafsir of the Qur'an, Taysir al-Karim al-Rahman. Here, he eloquently explains the Names of Allah found in the Qur'an. After each explanation, the translator has included relevant verses from the Qur'an illustrating the usage of the particular Name. The author, may Allah have mercy upon him, specifically addresses Names present in the Qur'an, totaling eighty-nine in his view. Additional Names mentioned in the Qur'an have been included from the work of Ibn `Uthayman, Qawaidu-l-Muthla fi Sifati Allahi wa Asma'ihi-l-Husna, bringing the total to one hundred and three. Before delving into the treatise, some general principles regarding the Names of Allah, the Mighty and Magnificent, are presented.
